Hello!
I'm really excited to start writing again. I've been thinking about it for a while and have been experimenting with different styles, approaches, and tones. ...As of now, I feel like I'm more interested in the conversational blogging style. Something that is not really bound by any structure or is limited. I'm hoping that by doing this, I can start to develop my own personal voice...? Well, whatevz. I just want to get in the habit of expressing my feelings...
I'm not really sure what I'd like to write about. I just have this vague desire to start typing.
One of the things I've been grappling with is how to express the experience of being an api/latina woman of color. I mean, what is the meaning of that identity to me and what is it like to be a mixed woman of color in this society.
I've been really drawn, as of late (which basically means yesterday morning), to students of color and their retention rates in high school and higher education. I'm really drawn to the idea of teaching students of color ways to reimagine their perceptions of themselves, history and society. And being able to help initiate self-reflective moments among students.
I don't know if that means teaching or something else. ..But I have to say I'm not really fond of the idea of teaching mainly because I know I don't really excel at long essays or tests, such as the GRE. I looked over some questions on a GRE sample test, and I couldn't really understand the question so I knew I couldn't really count on doing well.
I also have considered putting some energy into learning about disrupting eurocentric beauty standards, but for some reason that just doesn't resonate with me as much as the idea of working with students of color. I kind of feel that maybe I want to start creating content, such as visual graphics or just short articles like this to start talking about social issues and maybe can be useful for kids or anyone, really.
I'm thinking I might want to minor in Asian American Studies, and can kind of try to use that experience as a way of educating myself so I can write more.
I wish I had more to say, but I don't.
Thanks for reading this far, lol.
Talk to ya soon!
